I SHALL BE A TREE

My mother said when I grow up

I can be what I want to be.

All day long I've thought about it.

I think I'd like to be a tree.

Then I could catch the racing breeze,

And hold a nest of baby birds.

I would talk to the other trees

If I could understand their words.

Oh, I would be the biggest tree!

I would wear a cloud for a cap,

And best of all, it seems to me,

I wouldn't have to take a nap.
