Levee Road


Levees along the Sacramento River are wide enough at the crown to carry a two-lane road. Typically, they rise to the second story of the farmhouses behind them. The land is well below the river level, and in some places actually below sea level.






In the photo, note the difference in height of the river horizon to the right, and the land horizon behind the levee.
