I can't recall what happened on the "weekend fiasco", but I do remember that the pair in question frequently sought an audience for their loud arguments. Joan cringed at public display.

You may recall Stella from Joan's letter of March, 1967 when Stella and Jay visited Joan at Easter time while I was in Algeria. Joan and Stella had seen each other only once since then when Joan went up to the Bay area to see her.
Both of them "rust belt" Midwesterners, Joan and Stella had much in common. Unfortunately, with work-location moves over the next several years, we lost track of Jay and Stella.
