Pommerntag, a celebration for people of Pomeranian descent, is held every June in
Mequon, Wisconsin. In addition to German food, music, and traditional dancers, the
organizers provide access to a genealogy computer data base of over 100,000 surnames.
They say that if your immigrant ancestor was German, Protestant, and settled in the
Midwest, he most likely came from an area on the Baltic Sea known as Pomerania or
Pommern.
