You looked for the flagman waiting at the end of the field to guide the duster
pilot into his next pass. Most flagmen were gaunt and leathery, tan as the
valley soil. They seemed almost heedless of the airplane’s passage, intent only
on measured plodding between rows, their mind otherwise free to dream whatever
dreams flagmen dream under a broiling sun. |
